Who is God? This is the most fundamental question a human being can ask. The Bible reveals that God is not an impersonal force, a projection of human imagination, or a distant observer. He is the living, personal Creator of the universe, who exists eternally in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord." — Deuteronomy 6:4, KJV
The Key Attributes of God
The KJV Bible describes the character of God through several unchanging attributes:
- God Is Holy: Holiness is the foundational attribute of God. It means He is completely pure, separate from sin, and absolutely perfect. Isaiah 6:3 says, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts."
- God Is Just: Because God is just, He must punish sin and uphold righteousness. He is the perfect Judge of the earth. "A God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he" (Deuteronomy 32:4).
- God Is Love: While God is holy and just, He is also infinitely loving and merciful. He desires a relationship with you. "God is love" (1 John 4:8). The ultimate expression of His love was sending Jesus to die for our sins.
- God Is Omniscient and Omnipresent: He knows everything—including your thoughts—and is present everywhere. Nothing is hidden from His sight (Psalm 139:1-8).
A God Who Desires to Be Known
God did not create you and then walk away. He created you for His glory and to enjoy fellowship with Him. However, our sin separates us from His holiness. Because we cannot bridge this gap on our own, God did it for us through His Son Jesus Christ. Through faith in Jesus, the barrier of sin is removed, and you can know God not just as a distant Creator, but as your loving heavenly Father.
