You do not need a script. You do not need a seminary degree or a prayer journal or the right atmosphere. Prayer is the most democratic act in the universe — available to everyone, at any hour, in any condition, from any distance.

But sometimes it helps to have a starting point. Here is one.

A Prayer for This Morning

Father — this day is Yours before it is mine. I don't know what it holds. I don't need to. You are already in every hour of it, ahead of me, working on my behalf before I even get there. Give me eyes to see Your hand in the ordinary. Give me a heart that softens instead of hardening when things get hard. I am showing up. The rest is grace. In Jesus' name. Amen. — Simple. That's the point.

A Prayer for When the Day Has Already Gone Sideways

Lord — it didn't go the way I planned. Again. And I'm sitting here with the gap between what I hoped for and what actually happened. I'm not going to pretend it's fine. But I'm also not going to pretend You're not God. You work in the gaps. Meet me in this one. In Jesus' name. — Honesty is the best prayer strategy.

A Prayer for 3am When Sleep Won't Come

God — You don't sleep. Which means I don't have to worry about waking You. I'm awake and I don't know why and I'm going to use it. Hear me. I don't have organized thoughts right now, just this: I need You to be close. Psalm 34:18 says You are near to the brokenhearted. Be near tonight. In Jesus' name. Amen. — He hears the unpolished ones too. Especially those.

Jesus gave us the Lord's Prayer not as a script to recite but as a shape to follow — one that starts with God's character, moves through our needs, and ends in trust. Use that shape. Fill it with your actual life. He can handle the details.
