The Bible and the Quran are the two most influential books in the world, serving as the foundation of faith for billions of people. While they share some historical figures and moral teachings, they differ fundamentally on core theological truths. A respectful, clear comparison of these differences is essential for anyone seeking the truth about the character of God and the way of salvation.
"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time." — 1 Timothy 2:5-6, KJV
1. The Identity of Jesus Christ
This is the most critical difference between the two scriptures:
- The Quran: Describes Jesus (Isa) as a highly respected prophet and messenger of Allah, but denies His deity, stating that he was created like Adam and is not the Son of God (Surah 19:35).
- The Bible: Declares that Jesus is the eternal Word of God made flesh (John 1:1,14)—fully God and fully man. Jesus claimed deity Himself, saying, "I and my Father are one" (John 10:30).
2. The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus
The historical pivot point of the Christian faith is the death of Jesus on the cross, which the Quran rejects:
- The Quran: Teaches that Jesus was not crucified or killed, but that it only appeared so to the people, and that Allah raised Jesus to Himself without dying (Surah 4:157-158).
- The Bible: Focuses entirely on the crucifixion, death, and physical resurrection of Jesus. Without His death, there is no payment for human sin; without His resurrection, there is no victory over death. "Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day" (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
3. How Salvation Is Received
The way a person is reconciled to God differs completely between the two paths:
- The Quran: Teaches a system of scales where a person’s good deeds must outweigh their bad deeds, combined with Allah’s mercy, to enter paradise (Surah 23:102-103). Salvation is earned by works and remains uncertain until judgment.
- The Bible: Teaches that no one can earn their way to heaven because our best deeds are stained by sin (Isaiah 64:6). Salvation is a free gift received by grace through faith in the finished work of Jesus on the cross. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).
The Unique Grace of the Gospel
The Bible reveals a God who loves you so much that He did not ask you to work your way up to Him. Instead, He came down to you. In Jesus, God paid the penalty for your sins, offering complete forgiveness, absolute assurance of eternal life, and a personal relationship with Him. We invite you to explore the Gospel of grace and experience the peace that comes from knowing the Savior.
