Remember the Prayer

I was kneeling at my kitchen table, the kettle whistling, when the prayer rose from my lips. The words felt like a steady hand on a shaking shoulder. They reminded me that my broken trust sits before the throne of grace.

The betrayal cut deep, but I whispered, "Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors." The breath of the prayer pulled my heart toward the mercy seat. I sensed that forgiveness is not a feeling, but a command.

"And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors." — "For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:" — "But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."— Matthew 6:12-14, KJV

Extend the Grace

Ephesians tells us to be kind, tenderhearted, forgiving as God forgave us. That picture of a gentle hand reaching across the chasm steadied my resolve. I saw that my hurt could become a conduit for Christ's love.

So I chose to lay aside the ledger of his sins, to speak a blessing instead of a curse. The act was not easy, but it released the chains that bound my spirit. In that release I tasted a peace the world cannot give.

"And be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."— Ephesians 4:32, KJV

Remember that the Father has already paid the price. Your heart need not carry the weight of betrayal any longer. Walk forward wrapped in the mercy that He freely offers.
