The Earthquake and the Empty Tomb

The phone rings with news you weren't prepared for. The bank account drains faster than it fills. A relationship you swore was solid suddenly begins to fracture. Life rarely falls apart quietly; it usually hits like an earthquake. We often believe a lie that God's peace is found on a quiet beach, in a silent retreat, or in a season where absolutely nothing goes wrong. We look for peace as if it were a destination we can escape to. But real life is loud. Real life shakes. If our faith only works when the waters are perfectly still, it isn't strong enough for the world we actually live in.

Think about the women at the tomb on Sunday morning. They were walking into a graveyard, carrying the fresh, bleeding trauma of the crucifixion. And what happens? A massive earthquake. An angel descending like lightning. Heavily armed guards fainting and becoming like dead men. It was a scene of absolute, terrifying chaos. Yet, right there in the middle of a literal earthquake and the shadow of death, heaven invades earth. The ultimate source of Christian peace steps directly onto the path. Jesus Himself.

He doesn't wait for the ground to stop shaking to reveal Himself. He meets them in their mixture of fear and great joy. He speaks directly to the panic rising in their chests. This is how the peace of God operates. It does not require a perfect, sanitized environment. It requires a present Savior. When your world is trembling, do not let the shaking fool you. Do not let this season of your struggle become a stop sign that causes you to quit coming toward God. Jesus is walking toward you in the very epicenter of your earthquake.

Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.— Matthew 28:10, KJV

When the Darkness Tries to Swallow You Whole

Sometimes the chaos isn't external. Sometimes there is no earthquake outside, but a Category 5 hurricane is raging inside your mind. The anxiety, the overthinking, the depression, the relentless pressure—it feels like a suffocating darkness. You try to navigate it. You try to logically work your way out of it. You read the self-help books and try to manage your environment. But here is the spiritual truth you must grasp today: you cannot organize darkness; you can only illuminate it.

When we look at the very beginning of everything, we see the divine blueprint for how God handles the dark. Jesus is the Word. He is the life, and that life is the light of men. I want you to really receive this personally for you today. Let the rain of God's presence saturate your mind right now. The darkness in your mind, the chaos in your home, the confusion in your spirit—it cannot comprehend the light of Christ. It cannot swallow it. It cannot defeat it.

The peace of God is not a fragile candle waiting to be blown out by the wind of your worries. It is an unquenchable, blazing reality. When the Apostle Paul wrote about the peace that passes all understanding in Philippians 4:7, he was pointing directly to this exact light. A peace that doesn't make sense to the dark. A peace that guards your heart and mind when every circumstance says you should be falling apart. Stop trying to understand the darkness. Let the light of the Creator shine into it, and watch the shadows break.

In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.— John 1:4-5, KJV

The Deliverance in the Dust

There is a powerful, visceral story in the Gospel of Luke that shatters our polite, sanitized versions of faith. A father brings his demon-possessed son to Jesus. The boy isn't just acting out; he is being violently thrown down and torn apart by an unclean spirit. It is a terrifying, messy, public display of utter chaos. And what does Jesus do? He doesn't panic. He doesn't retreat. He doesn't ask the father to calm the boy down before He ministers to him. He steps right into the mess.

We spend so much of our lives trying to clean up our chaos before we bring it to God. We think we need to present Him with a calm, collected version of ourselves in order to be worthy of His help. But Jesus is not afraid of your mess. He is not intimidated by the things that are tearing your life apart. While the crowd wondered and the disciples argued about who was the greatest, Jesus simply rebuked the chaos, healed the child, and delivered him back to his father. He brought absolute restoration into a situation that seemed completely hopeless.

Stop being so controlled and consumed by what is going on around you. Stop trying to fight the spiritual battles of your life in your own limited, exhausted strength. Bring the shattered pieces to the Master. Let these sayings sink down into your ears today: the mighty power of God is available to you right now. True Christian peace is not the absence of trouble; it is the presence of the Deliverer. When you surrender your chaos to Him, He steps into the dust of your life and speaks a word of healing that changes absolutely everything.

And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father. And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God.— Luke 9:42-43, KJV

You don't have to go discovering peace like it's a hidden treasure waiting in your next career move or your next relationship. You just have to lean into the Person of Peace who is already standing with you. Whatever shattered pieces lie at your feet today, leave them there. Look up. The tomb is empty, the light is shining in the darkness, and the Savior is speaking directly to your storm. Breathe deeply today, beloved. You are held by the One whom the winds and waves obey, and His peace will carry you home.
